Apply a continuous bead of adhesive across the top plate. Choose a construction adhesive intended for drywall installation and cut the tip on a slant leaving an opening of about 1 4 in. The general rule for hanging ceiling drywall is to install the largest panels you can handle. Then from the top down apply a bead to each stud stopping at your marked line.

Standard panels come in 4 foot widths and 8 10 and 12 foot lengths. To install ceiling drywall start by applying adhesive to the joists where the first sheet of drywall will go. The third is purely to stiffen walls framed on the flat. The second is in some fire rated assemblies with the same basic goal.

A glue screwed wall also has greater racking strength and sound deadening ability than a screw only installation. The more the drywall can be made to act like an integrated part of the framing the stiffer the wall is. Drywall adhesives should meet astm standard c 557. Fasten drywall s outer edges with nails 12 on.

Once the first piece is in place repeat the process along the first wall making sure the tapered edges face down. Apply a 1 4 adhesive bead to rafters. The adhesive must bond the drywall directly to the framing. Next raise the drywall up with the help of a friend or drywall lift.

Keeping the air from moving bay to bay helps to keep the fire from spreading bay to bay or wall to ceiling etc. It cannot be used for instance where insulation batts are stapled to the faces of the studs.
